Captured: Lesson Seven
                                                  Chapter 7: On to Manila

            • Introduce the story:

Have you ever taken a long trip? Where were you going? Did you travel by bus, plane, train, car, or boat?
How long did it take you to get to your final destination? Did you or your parent/guardian use a map to find
        your way?

These days, most of us use our phones and GPS instead of a paper map or map book to help us know where
we are going. But even when using a map, we still get lost occasionally. Because God is omniscient, which
means he knows everything, he never loses track of his children! Even though we are spread all over the earth
and travel often, God cares about us so much that he knows where each of us is at all times. He never thinks,
“Oh no, I can’t find (insert your name).” And he never says, “I wonder where (insert your name) is going now?”

In today’s story, we are going to hear about the Hess family’s long trip to the prison camp in Manila.
While we read today’s chapter, you can color the picture on page 14 and any of the previous pages.

        Read Captured Chapter 7.

            • Something to Think About (review questions):

        1. Where did the Hess family celebrate Christmas? (on board the ship)

        2. What was their Christmas celebration like? (food, presents, singing carols)
        3. How was their new home in Manila different than Happy Life Blues? (men and women separated—separate
food lines, men in university building, women in dining hall, small hut shanties, room with baby cribs)

        4. Who got sick? (Arlene: dengue fever, kids: measles, Hudson: blood disease)
        5. Where did the packages come from? (Friends and family at home, through the Red Cross)

        6. Who received a surprise package in the mail? (Baby Victor)

            • Action Plan (do something):

This week, think about ways you can help encourage missionaries you know who are far from home.

            • Memory Verse:
        Psalm 121:8 ESV
The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth
        and forevermore.

            • Talk to God

Thank you, God, that you always know where I am. Thank you for never losing sight of me. Amen.

            • What we learned from this chapter…
