                Dear Mr. Bloomberg:

My name is Alexandria Williams and I am writing to thank you and Bloomberg Philanthropies for
the scholarship that I received. My family and I have been elated ever since we received news of the
scholarship. It lifts a huge financial burden off of us, especially coming from a single- parent home.

I was born and raised in College Park, Ga., only 15 minutes from Morehouse School of Medicine. I
attended Mercer University on a full basketball scholarship and earned my Bachelor’s of Arts in Spanish.
Currently, I am a first-year MD student at Morehouse School of Medicine with an interest in Obstetrics and
Gynecology. If I indeed pursue this specialty, I would like to do a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine.

At the end of 2019, I began establishing my non-profit, There’s Hope in Us, which aims to provide
resources and education on sexual and reproductive health for girls and women. I hope to continually expand
this organization with each year and pass it on as my legacy.

With all of my goals in mind, I have always believed Morehouse School of Medicine was, and
continues to be, the best place to achieve them. Morehouse School of Medicine exists to increase diversity,
address primary care, and improve well-being of individuals and communities, specifically people of color and
underserved populations. As students, we are given the opportunity to take part in this mission and learn
from those who dedicate their careers to this mission.

In a way, this scholarship confirmed this is where I am supposed to be. I was rejected the first time I
applied and waitlisted, then accepted on my second try. Days before receiving the scholarship, I was talking
with my mom, worrying about the amount of loans I would have to borrow. This scholarship allows me to be
able to go into primary care and continue helping the community without having the shackles of massive
loans tempting me to aim for a higher-paying specialty.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel as though my words will never be enough
to greatly express my appreciation and gratitude for your support.

                Sincerely,
                Alexandria V. Williams
