Dear Mr. Bloomberg:

I am honored to be one of the recipients of the Bloomberg Philanthropies scholarship at Morehouse School
of Medicine. Thanks to your generous support I am the first in my family to attend medical school and will
not be haunted by the expenses of accomplishing this feat.

I am a third-year medical student at MSM and wish to go into the field of internal medicine or emergency
medicine. Growing up, I was the only child living in a single-parent home. Thankfully, I was raised by my
mother, who has been an elementary school teacher for more than 25 years. She taught me the importance of
academic achievement at a very young age. I attended Newton County high school and later attended college
at UGA, where I was able to graduate with honors and a B.S.A. in Biological Sciences.

Growing up in a less-privileged community has not only created financial and academic challenges
but has also helped me realize the value of a college education.

Working as a volunteer in my community throughout my college career, I enjoyed helping people learn about
community services available to them. I hope to be able to serve in a clinical position sometime in the future,
where I might have even more of an ability to help less-fortunate and under-represented social groups.
