Dear Mr. Bloomberg:
My name is Ngafla Bakayoko and I am a second-year medical student at Morehouse School of
Medicine. I am writing this letter to personally thank you for your great contribution to my
education, as well as to that of many other Black medical students attending Historically Black
Medical Institutions.
As a first-generation aspiring physician, the road to medical school has not been easy. I come from
immigrant parents who stressed education growing up, frequently saying “education is the key to
life.” They hold degrees in dentistry and finance but work entry-level positions as a nursing assistant
and security officer. Attending medical school and becoming a physician will not only help my
family financially but will help those who live in low-income conditions live a healthier, more
meaningful life.
I hope to pursue a residency in Emergency Medicine, a specialty where we treat people from all
walks of life and can turn no one away. Your generous donation to my education will help me save
many Black lives and grow the Black community.
Thank you again for seeing us, believing in us, and investing in our educations and futures. Your
donation has improved our trajectory as physicians and expanded our freedom in choosing a
specialty that will afford us the opportunity to care for those most marginalized.
Sincerely,
Ngafla Bakayoko
