HOCKEY
                              (or something like that!)

Well. I'd like to write a lot. but owing to the limited space
                              and subject
material. I shall have to make this brief. Last year we had “Many
                              Hardships
and Surprising Results”, but this year we had “Many Results and
                              Surprising
some reason Hardships” (or something like that!). It is not known why. but for
or other there were only two schools which we could not play because of the
bad weather. They were Cleveland and Mt. Gravatt.
Most of our matches were played at Colmslie. It's a cute little field, right
in the middle of nowhere. As can be expected from good planning, it is situated
in a swamp and right next door is a timber mill. So, if it wasn’t “mud in the
eye”, it was “sawdust in the eye”. I suppose that's why it's situated near the
river — plenty of water to wash yourself with.
We also played several matches at East Carina. Owing to the open spaces
there, the winter westerlies whistled while we were wondering what we were
doing. (Note the alliteration.) We also played a game at school, which the
“A” team wasn't game to lose, but since the “B” team was playing last, it didn't
matter as all the ardent supporters had left to go home by then (or something
        like that!)
It seems that a certain individual on the “A” team had difficulty in
remembering which team she was trying to play for. But despite that, the
“A” team didn't do too badly at all — even some goals were scored ! For the
first time in recent history, the “A” team managed to make the finals, but in
order not to surprise too many people, we decided not to win the semi-finals
match. Also that's why the “B” team decided not to win all of their matches
(or something like that!) You see. it wasn't due to “circumstances beyond our
        control”.
           The teams were as follows:—
“A” Team : Ingrid Woelke (captain). Elspeth Blair. Jackie Christie. Glenda
Dyer. Julie Gibson. Lyndall Guy. Lyn Lewis. Jillian Mahoney. Gail Macdonald.
Beverly Randall. Denise Scarborough. Cecily Williams. Pam Valentine.
“B” Team: Betty Swann (captain), Susan Codling. Kathy Dellit, Joyce
Hollings. Wilhelmina Kooyman. Merilyn Mahoney. Marilyn Moffit, Charmaine
Nelson, Sandra Ross, Ann Taylor. Pam Thompson, Melitta Urban.
In conclusion, we would all like to thank Miss Marshall, who tried
desperately hard to coach us. Let's hope she has better material to work on
next year (or something like that!).

                                     SQUASH
                                (Enjoyed by the fortunate few)
This year squash was again held on sports afternoons throughout the year,
and again was thoroughly enjoyed by the relatively few who were fortunate
enough to play. Numbers at squash were limited by our having only two
courts, but. by playing doubles, we had eight players on court simultaneously.
Most of the players were newcomers at the beginning of the year, but.
with help from Mr. Bundesen, they soon learned the skills, and now prove a
real threat to his court supremacy. Although many of the players are Seniors,
there are a few younger members who are already very proficient.
