GOLF
(Suffers a Setback)
With an increasing number of members and visitors using Wynnum Golf
Course on Wednesdays, it has been necessary for the school to keep the golf
group down to a very small size. Golf also suffered a setback because there
were, in 1969, very few students who had been playing golf in previous years.
As a result, the school was unable to nominate a team for inter-school fixtures.
Until this year, our school always participated in the inter-school competition
which began in 1961. Indeed, our students acquitted themselves very well in
the past, and on three occasions the girls won the Metropolitan Girls’ Finals,
while the boys contested the Boys’ Finals three times. However, there will have
to be a new burst of enthusiasm for golf by both boys and girls if the school
is to regain the standards it achieved during the early and middle sixties.
Rodney Lauchlan and Keith Kelley fought out the year’s School Cham
pionship. The game was not decided until the 18th green, where Rodney
clinched a 1-up victory.
