INTER-SCHOOL
                                      (Improving)
From the 1969 basketball record, it seems that Wynnum is finally improving !
In the Q.S.S.S.S.A. competition on Wednesdays, our A and B teams managed
to win about half their matches and were disappointed not to have reached the
semi-finals. Two honourable “oldies” played this year, showing much style and
experience, but clearly indicating a need for an early retirement next year.
Towards the end of second term, the lady teachers challenged a mixed team
of students to a game of basketball. Seven appropriately attired teachers pranced
onto the field and barely managed to crawl off thirty minutes later after a
crushing defeat. All students wish to thank Mr. Neibling. who was the only
fair umpire. (Editor's Note.—This is the students' interpretation of the game.
The official score was 14 all, the teachers' team surely indicating their superiority
to an experienced team of school players.)
Once again this year Wynnum High competed ably (sorry, competed) in
the G.P.S. matches on Saturdays. Although we recorded more losses than wins,
our match against St. Margaret’s must surely be mentioned, for we almost won
(37-38)!! ! Our B and C teams didn't seem to have what it takes on Saturdays,
but our 8th Grade team — Dulcie Bronsch (Captain), Saskia Entrop, Jenny
Hollings. Susan Westaway, Glenys Able, Estelle Farley and Anne Aplin —
managed to remain undefeated until their last match against Brisbane Grammar.
We take this opportunity to thank Mr. Keegan and Mr. Franklin for their
help on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and a special thanks to Miss Nixon, Miss
Jarrett (A and B coach), and Miss Marshall (C and Gr. 8 coach) for their support
and interest in all our matches.

                            SOFTBALL
                            A GRADE
                            (Zone Runners-up)

        COACH : Miss Tighe.
        CAPTAIN : Pam Valentine.
Old saying: “We came, we saw, we conquered and were conquered.”
        (Boy, were we conquered!)
Back to the fields of old Kianawah the Softball team marched, dragged,
        and finally three crawled.
Our team was much changed from that of last year, even though we
achieved the same resullts. We had some gaps to fill; one big one included
