Pitching for us was Merilyn. later Marjory, and in the end, in sheer
desperation, Mary. They all tried hard and their batting made up for their
pitching. On first base was Julie. Her fielding was good, but could she “bunt"
a home run ? Kerry was our second base again this year, and her capabilities
in this position showed no lack. Chris was third base. Her fielding shone, but
her batting stance was enough to scare any pitcher — or to start her laughing ! ! ’
Merilyn and Marjory played shortstop alternately, but how could either of them
fill that gap? Right field was Mini, er, Wilhelmina. Her eyes on the field and
her heart in the game (?). Dawn was our first centre-field, but Mary soon filled
that position capably and was an asset to our team. Left-field was Dianne Lake
now have you ever seen her on her knees at Kianawah ? (Not praying, just
drinking.) Pam was our captain this year and. again, the catcher. Well, she
NEARLY filled the gap left from last year. She was always ready with
suggestions, but did they help the game ?
Anne was our scorer again this year, and her encouragement to the team
helped a great deal.
With this team of magnificent players, we managed the position of Zone
Runners-up. deciding to give Camp Hill a turn at winning the Premiership.
Miss Tighe was again our coach and was always there to assist us and
encourage us.
G.P.S.
This year we competed in the G.P.S.. and even though we lost more games
than we won, the competition was enjoyed by all and gave us good practice
for our Zone Competition. We thank Miss Nixon and Miss Tighe for their
help and encouragement.
B GRADE
(Zone Runners-up)
COACH : Miss Tighe.
CAPTAIN : L. Schumann.
"Ball in!” was the cry as the out-fielders missed the ball, but this lasted
only for the first game — and the last, the Grand Finals.
Practice makes perfect, they say, and we proved this by becoming Zone
Runners-up.
When we were in need of home runs, we could usually count on Geraldine,
Dawn or Lorelie. Lyn, however, proved herself worthwhile only in practices.
If it were not for our out-fielders, where would we have been ? — the
runners-up in the Grand Finals ? Not really; they were great. Thanks Sue,
Hedy, Laurie and Dawn. We could always count on our pitcher, as she seemed
to rely on her black pants to bring her luck, and more often than not, they did.
Our short-stop. Janelie. was a marvel at throwing. She'd have to be for
Glenda on first base to catch them ! Good work. Glenda. Our second base was
in the capable hands of Merilyn and Suzette alternately, who both agreed that
Lyn wasn't the best thrower in the team. Our thanks go to Marilyn for coming
to score for us. Last, but not least, was Lorelle. who stood proudly on third
base and. through quick thinking and good team work, managed to bring us
closer to the good news of “three out!”.
Don't get me wrong — it was a great team, and we enjoyed every game.
Many thanks go to our popular coach. Miss Tighe, who stood with us all
the way. Thanks, Miss Tighe.
