RUGBY LEAGUE
A GRADE
SOME OUTSTANDING RESULTS
COACH : Mr. Tye.
CAPTAIN : R. Ricketts.
Our first XIII this year took part in the A2 division in the
Q.S.S.S.R.L.
The team did not perform too well at the start of the season due to injuries
to some key players. However, towards the end of the season some excellent
games were played. This team won two semi-finals and was beaten 8-0 by
Salisbu.y in the Grand Final.
It was noticeable this season that most of our players came from the top
of the school, thus giving our younger players a chance to play in their correct
divisions before representing the school in the top grade.
R. Ricketts, John Maccoll, Frank Whately, W. Weise and Ian Grant were the
most consistent players in the team, some of these being outstanding on various
occasions. R. Ricketts represented Brisbane in both matches against Toowoomba
and showed his ability in both games.
C GRADE
IN THE RIGHT SPIRIT
COACH : Mr. Hazell.
CAPTAIN : Lee Williams.
The C grade team, although not reaching the grand final, had a most
interesting and profitable season. It was heartening indeed to see so many of
our Senior boys joining the ranks and doing well in their first season in Rugby
League. The example has been set for future Seniors to follow.
Kevin McTaggart showed good form early and was soon promoted to A grade.
Rodney Elmes, in spite of an early injury, continued to improve, his strong runs
around the wing of the rucks being quite a feature. This team played the game
as it should be played — in the right spirit — and won most of its season's
fixtures.
Captain, Lee Williams, led his team well and was supported by every
member of the side.
