9 stone B Team
                                           BRISBANE PREMIERS
                                      COACH : Mr. Taylor.
                                      CAPTAIN : Bill Sturgess.

The 9 stone B team had a very successful season and became Brisbane
Premiers in their division. Success is the reward of hard work and the team
put all they could give into their game. The forwards played every game
as though it were a grand final, and were always gaining ground. They were ably
led by Bill Hamlet, who played as hooker, and were always as good in defence as
in attack. Second-rower Dave Johnston saved several tries with excellent tackling
The back line had their share of the ball and made good use of it, with many
penetrating manoeuvres ending in tries. Outstanding players in the backs were
five-eighth Bill Sturgess, the goal-kicking captain, and winger Danny Etchell.
John Aubrev, half back, picked up quite a few loose balls from the scrums and
kept solid cohesion between forwards and backs.
The team played five games in the South Zone, winning four, and became
runners-up to Cavendish Road. They then met Sandgate and Wavell in the semi
finals and Cavendish Road in the Grand Final, and defeated all three. Tally of
points for the year was I 22 for and 1 1 against.
The team would like to thank Mr. Neibling for the time and advice he gave
it in quite a number of coaching sessions.
