COMBAT DIFFICULTIES
The team started the season with a Stirling win over
Salisbury, but a number
of injuries and the loss of a couple of key players threw the team
out for the
major part of the season.
The end of the season was marked by a good recovery, the results of the
last three matches being a loss by 3 points, a draw, and a 20 point win.
The development of team-work was clearly noticeable by the end of the
season. It was difficult to name the best players in this side, because individually
they were good, but best efforts were often marred by individualism. In the
forwards, Ron. Barr and Larry Roberts were always trying, and Graham Neville
and Peter Shaw were the best of the backs.
The B's were placed in an unfortunate position from the beginning of the
season, as it was often necessary to take some of them to fill the ranks of the
A's. They were placed at a further disadvantage by the fact that their coach
was unable to watch them play. However, their performance was creditable.
Best players were Neil Hume and Bill Brosnan.

BRISBANE PREMIERS
COACH : Mr. Law.
CAPTAIN : J. Wiley.
VICE-CAPTAIN : R. Dolby.
The 7 A division formed a limited and possibly select group involving six
schools only. We had a good team assembled, but had little chance to develop
team-work and spirit before our first match. Nonetheless, we faced Kedron
confidently; the teams were evenly matched, but Kedron defeated us six points
to three. It speaks well for the team that this defeat and the others that fol
lowed lCavendish Road defeated us 16-0, Banyo 6-0) did nothing to depress its
spirits, but rather increased the determination to win.
By now we were a team. We defeated our remaining competitors (Mitchelton
21-11 and Redcliffe 36-0) and so qualified for the quarter finals. None of our
following matches Droved easy. Rather they were very hard indeed, as Kedron and
Banyo were equally determined to play against Cavendish Road (who were
undefeated) in the finals.
We reversed our earlier defeats by beating Kedron 6-3, then Banyo 8-3,
and so faced undefeated Cavendish Road for the premiership. What a match!
Within five minutes of play Bob Riley intercepted a dangerous Cavendish Road
movement on our 10 yard line and ran the complete length of the field to score
under the posts. This was the spur that lea to our 15-6 win, and so won for us
the premiership.
