SOCCER

                         The value of experience

Two teams were entered in the inter-Secondary School
         competition, an over
15 years and an under 15 years team.
The over 1 5 years team showed reasonable ability and improved considerably
towards the end of the season. Even though they were unsuccessful in winning
the South Zone competition, most of their matches resulted in close decisions.
Good team spirit was shown by the boys who were captained by Ken. Maas. All
boys showed plenty of skill, the most improved being Nick Coblens, Ken. Maas,
Peter Koocoolas, Kevin Brown and Harry Rozalkalms.
The under 15 years team played very good soccer and were very unfortunate
to be beaten by the leaders to run second in the South Zone competition. Good
team-work enabled them to win every match except one. Darby Kopp showed a
lot of skill as goalkeeper and Roland Hobet played well as left full-back. The
team was ably captained by Ray Schoenauer. All the boys played skilful football,
the most improved being Kevin Tretheway, Russell Bell, Ian Woodbine, Marcus
Bronet, and Robert Patterson. The experience of playing inter-school soccer was
invaluable and it should enable us to field a very strong over 1
                            5 team next year.

                            INTER-HOUSE ATHLETICS
                            CARNIVAL

                            5 NEW EVENTS

The inter-house sports carnival was held on Tuesday, 7th August. Although
we had had heavy rain the previous day, the damp ground did not deter the boys,
who showed some very fine performances. This year we missed the presence of
Mr. Gunn, M.L.A., a keen supporter of all our school functions.
Robin Ricketts started off the day well by winning the open broad jump
with a leap of 20' .5", shattering his previous record by 2.5". We are all looking
forward to seeing Robin jump at the Q.S.S.S.S.A. meeting.
             E. Kelk won the open high jump, attaining a height of 5' 3". Rodney
Chadwick showed excellent form in winning four events. In the hurdles, Rodney
equalled Stuart McDonald's record time of 17 seconds set in 1961. A. Preston
ran well, winning the mile and the open 880 yards.
