Carnival
August 9th: All honour to him who shall win t he prize” . . . but "to
him who tries and fails I give great honour and glory.” Miller.
The Inter-House Athletics Carnival was held, the victors being
Oxley House, hut every House contributed to make the Carnival a
success.
August11th: “When musing on companions gone, we doubly feel ourselves
alone.” — Scott.
The Cadets left for their annual camp.
August 12th: "On the stage he was natural, simple, affecting.” — Goldsmith.
A number of students entertained the School with a concert.
August 29th: “Whatever makes men good Christians, makes them good
citizens.” — Webster.
The final term of the year commenced with a combined Term
Service, the address being given by Bev. H. Ralph Heaton. “These
are honoured in this generation, and are the glory of the time.” —
1961 Boys’ School Captains were presented with their badges. The
Girls' Captains were elected before the holidays.
August 30th: "You can only make others better by being good yourself.” —

Twenty-one new Prefects began asserting their authority, but first
of all they had to remind themselves of the School rules
“By the mouth of many messengers goes forth the word of God." —
Ainger.
An American missionary addressed a combined Crusader meeting.
August 31st: “Deserted sport, that owes its pleasures to another’s pain." —
Cowper.
Oxley's Roger Sands came home the winner in the annual Cross
Country Race. Just what those poor boys went through we shall
never know, but most of them eventually completed the race looking
much the worse for wear.
