Medicinal plants (PG 101) Level 1 Clinical Pharmacy-PharmD
Kingdom Plantae
❑ Plants are multicellular photosynthetic eukaryotic cells, have chlorophyll a
and b and carotenoids and starch (primary food reserve). They are
characterized by differentiation of tissues and organs. The reproduction is
sexual with alternation of generations. Cell walls are cellulosic and covered
with cuticle and pores. They are divided into:
A-Non-Vascular Plants:
Division Bryophyta:
They are non-vascular plants lacking vascular tissue, i.e., no xylem nor phloem.
Their bodies are differentiated into photosynthetic, storing, and anchoring tissues.
They lack true leaves.
Classification: Three Classes (Hepaticae, Anthocerotae and Musci), the most
important is class Musci “Mosses”
Example: Sphagnum.
