Later, I ended up leaving the mortgage company to
work as a receptionist for a law firm. I was always breaking
up with Steve, so there were long periods of time when I was
a single mother. Steve had decided to live outside of San
Antonio instead of moving back to Houston. Because my
parents didn’t like me and the kids living in an apartment,

they assumed a home for us to live in. I'd was giving my
parents money every month to cover the mortgage payments,
which were affordable unless I had unexpected expenses
come up. The house was modest and cute. It was also located

in a cul-de-sac, which I thought was great for the kids!

At various times, we either had season passes to Sea
World or Fiesta Texas. The kids would enjoy the water-parks
and rides. Sometimes we would sing around the house and
take videos of ourselves pretending to be singers from our
favorite bands. Nicole and Nick also loved playing video

games, but they did spend a good amount of time playing
outdoors with the neighborhood kids, too. Most of the time,
I was exhausted from work, so McDonald's or Sonic fed them.
Deep in my heart, I wanted to do more for them. I felt
