Vogelhuber, Scheelen - What people really want

                    • "How do you convey to your interviewer that you clearly
understood what they were telling you?"

                   Connect questions with typical situations

When trying to find out what drives and motivates an applicant,
you will get profound answers if you always link your questions to
typical situations that occur in your company:

                    • "Suppose just before closing, a customer enters the store
and complains about something .... You yourself are not
responsible for it. But you also want to keep an important
private appointment. How do you react?"

Questions linked to an example usually lead to differentiated
applicant responses, which allow an assessment of, for
example, work attitude. For clarification, another example: You
want to determine how the ability to deal with conflict is. To do
this, you construct an actual quarrel between two employees in
                   your question:

                    • "What do you do when you overhear such an argument
                       between colleagues?"

In addition, you should always ask for evidence to support your
answers. If the applicant says that he or she is good at dealing
with stress, follow up with: "Give me an example. How did you
behave at your previous workplace when you were severely
                   criticized by your boss?"
