Page 26 - Jeremiah Lollipop
P. 26
“One day, just as the woodcutter, whose name was Max, was about to
chop into a giant oak tree he saw a woodland fairy.
“Hello,” said the fairy, “You were lucky to see me. According to the
rules, I have to grant you three wishes!”
“I saw you too!” said Max.
“I’m sorry,” said the fairy, “The rules say it’s the first one to see me on
any given day who gets the wishes. You’ll have to catch me tomorrow,
or some other day.”
“Who makes all these rules?” said Jeremiah.
“The Grand Pongo!” said the fairy.
“Where does he live?” asked Jeremiah.
“Over the hill and far away” said the fairy, and she flew away.
“Who are you?” said Max, scratching his head.
“I’m Jeremiah. I’m from Earth… which is where you’re from too, only
you’re inside my head!”
“I am not!” said Max, “Stop talking such nonsense!”
Mrs. MacCreadle turned another page.
“When Max got home that evening he was tired and hungry, and his
wife Elsa was not very pleased because there wasn’t much food in the
house. There was, in fact, only one small bag of potatoes, and she had
used them to make some rather boring soup.
“Guess what happened to me today?” said Max.
“Who’s that boy?” said Elsa.
