and pressed together hard by the wheel barrow and boots. The track led
back and back, into the darkness of the house and then stopped at a wall.
“A wall?” thought Jeremiah, flicking his torch this way and that to find
some way round. But there was none. It was just a blank, solid wall,
without a handle, and the track led straight up to it. Very mysterious!
He tried pushing it, and pulling it, but it wouldn’t budge, then he went
for a little explore around the rooms each side. The house was quite
small. It was no larger than his own, so where was all the dirt coming
from? From behind the wall of course. “Must be a mighty big room back
there!” thought Jeremiah.
He was just about to give up trying to get past the wall when he heard
the truck returning. His heart started to beat a little too fast and he
looked about for somewhere to hide. He saw a dark corner and flicked
his torch off. Just in time too, because a moment later Mr. Flannel came
walking in, pushing his wheelbarrow. He stopped in front of the wall
and stopped.
“Escape Plan 101!” he said.
Instantly the door began to slide to one side. It hummed and clicked
open, then Mr. Flannel walked through and the door slid quietly back
into place behind him.
“Very strange!” thought Jeremiah, as he crept back through the house
and down the path, “Very strange indeed!”
