Page 29 - Jeremiah Lollipop

Max tried a little of the table and chewed thoughtfully.
“Try some of this,” he said, “Its walnutty!”
Jeremiah watched in amazement as Max and Elsa nibble everything –
the furniture, the curtains, the metal grate in the fire, even the dog’s tail.
Everything they tried was a culinary treat.
“Earth to Jeremiah! Are you listening?” said a voice.
Jeremiah blinked and found himself back in the classroom. Once again
Mrs. MacCreadle was looming over him and frowning.
“So what happened ?” she said.
“Max and Elsa ate their house,” said Jeremiah.
“They did what?”
“Well Max used up his first two wishes on making his wife stop
talking and then letting her talk again, but his third wish was…”
“Obviously you were NOT listening!” said the teacher, “I will have to
give you some lines to do!”
Jeremiah slumped in his chair. He hadn’t meant to drift away into his
own version of the story, it was just that the story he went into was much
more fun and a lot more interesting than the story the teacher was
reading from the book. Oh well, he thought, maybe by tomorrow he
would be able to invent a robot to write his lines for him.
