When he got home again his mother was just finishing the oven. She
told him to get into the bath, so he did. He asked if he could have a
bubble bath and she said yes. He used rather too much soap and built up
a huge amount of white froth, then he sank down into it and pretended
he was looking across a valley at a cave where there lived a large, fierce
CAVE OGRE.
The white bubbly hillsides became snow-covered, and mountains
appeared far away. Suddenly he heard the trip trap of goats trotting
along a path and approaching a small wooden bridge. They came to the
bridge and the first one started to cross.
“Who is that?” growled the ogre.
“It’s only me, a very small goat!” said the goat.
“I think I’ll eat you!”
“No no!” said the goat, “You wouldn’t want to do that! I’m much too
scrawny! You’d get bits of hair stuck between your teeth! You’d be
much better off waiting for my brother… he’s a lot bigger and fatter and
tastier than I could ever be!”
The ogre grunted and let the little goat pass.
TRIP TRAP TRIP TRAP along came the second goat.
“You’ll make a nice lunch for me!” said the ogre, reaching up to grab
the goat.
