Quantity Surveying: Guideline for Quantity Surveyor Chapter 6
6.9 Characteristics of Contractor Selection
Following are stated criteria:
1. Reasonable Price
A good price is not necessarily the lowest price. The contractor often makes this
mistake. They think that if the price is low then it will be selected while the price is
below the actual cost of the project. This allows the project to face problems.
2. Working Experience
Contractors who have experience in the same field as the project offered will
have a better chance than other contractors.
However, contractors who are not experience the same field but who
have completed similar jobs in terms of construction and price are also taken into
consideration.
3. Background of the Company
Usually companies with good and clean backgrounds are more likely to be
selected. Company performance can be evaluated by reviewing their previous
work records.
It may not be wise to choose a contractor who often fails or is late to
complete the project even if they offer low or reasonable prices. This is important
to enable the planned project to run smoothly.
4. Financial Record
Contractors with sufficient financial resources (at least 5% of projects) also have
the advantage to consider.
People say "there is money all can be." The same goes for the contractor
selection. A good and stable financial contractor has the advantage to choose.
