Asbestos Management
As the Site Manager is up to you to ensure that all construction activities in pre-2000 build
properties are risk assessed and conducted in full reference to the Refurbishment Survey (that Co-
op will provide as part of the Pre-Construction Information) without the disturbance of asbestos
materials.
This can be achieved by:
- Ensuring a Refurbishment Survey is in place before the start on site date and any strip out or
construction work begins. You are mandated to reject work requests or cease work activities, if
there is a lack of sufficient asbestos information available and/or if there is the potential for
disturbance of asbestos materials.
- Using the Refurbishment Survey as part of the site induction and ensuring there is an asbestos
plan clearly displayed and communicated to operatives for locations where asbestos remains in
situ.
- Ensuring all RAMs detail control measures to avoid disturbing asbestos and that all operatives
have read and understood them.
- Ensuring all operatives who could conceivably disturb asbestos, work on the fabric of the
building and those operatives who provide site supervision or influence how site operations are
conducted, must have up to date UKATA/IATP approved Asbestos Awareness training as a
minimum requirement in order to work on the site.
Emergency arrangements must be in place and an emergency asbestos grab pack MUST be held
on site. See the Co-op Property Code of Conduct for further information.
