Segregation and Security
Effective segregation and security is the backbone of retail construction.
Protection of Customers, Colleagues and Contractors is of paramount importance and
must be considered during the planning of works and constantly throughout the project.
Customers should not be able to access the site at any time. However, site operatives
should be able to escape easily in the case of emergency. The perimeter must be
secure and digi-lock gates kept shut at all times.
All works within the store must also be segregated from colleagues and customers with
the appropriate barriers.
All fencing/hoardings must display appropriate information and construction Health &
Safety signage.
Daily checks of the site perimeter, segregation and security must take place and be
recorded by the site manager.
Consideration should also be to high risk areas on site e.g. deep excavations, scaffold,
roofs etc. and ensure access to these areas are restricted.
Further information on this can be found in the Co-op Property Code of Conduct.
