I was fortunate to find an immediate replacement, Barbara. I had
met Barbara previously, on the Beltway circuit. I knew she was
professional, and she came into clean up our books. Sally had made a
complete mess of the books, another reason I had to terminate her. If
she could not figure things out, she would force wrong entries into the
system.
It took Barbara two months to clean up the mess. We also had to
hire a bookkeeper and an administrative assistant as additional support
for Barbara. We were attempting to cut costs since we had just cut
$250K in salaries. Barbara was an excellent accountant.
I thought we were getting better with the people we were hiring
until the bookkeeper, Tinesha, played her hand. She had been
responsible for paying and entering the bills, I had two credit cards for
the company, from the same credit card company, to help pay our
expenses. One was under the company and the other one was my
credit card. She did not realize which one was my credit card and she
had taken it upon herself to order another credit card in her name.
Unbeknownst to her, the credit card she ordered came to my house.
She was another who had to go. She had the nerve to continue to
use the company even after she was fired and was collecting
unemployment. We received a bill from Federal express where she was
shipping things under our account number. We stopped her
unemployment pay and threatened to bring charges against her if she
