together some folders that were critical to the process of the review.
My conference skills had to kick in, and we came up with a back-up
plan and had everything running 30 minutes later. That was the most
uncomfortable and embarrassing experience. At first, it looked like we
did not have a clue, but, as always, with some schmoozing, we ended
up succeeding. Still, they did not renew the remaining 2 years on the
contract. Considering all the distractions brought by Jerome, Melissa,
and Tonya, who could blame them for not wanting to renew the
contract?
I had somewhat of a breather once I got rid of the three culprits,
but I knew the remaining members of the conference department
were still in contact with the outsiders.
I had to also terminate Sally, the accountant, once I had gotten
rid of the main crazies. Sally’s crazy came full circle. Sally would come
into my office claiming she was having a heart attack and she was
going to pass out for moments. She also instructed me that if
Stephanie and I heard a noise, to ignore the noise because she revives
herself after 15 seconds. She had to go. Once I terminated her and
went to clean her office, we realized she was a hoarder. There were
mounds of paper, multiple copies of the same thing. She had even
made copies of the money she had deposited in the bank. She made a
photocopy of 2 five-dollar bills and seventy-five cents. Her office
clutter demonstrated her craziness. I was grateful for her and to her
for at least helping me bring down the bullies. She was the only one I
felt bad about terminating. She was crazy, but she was not malicious.
