After canceling the party for the third time, I realized it was not

God's order, no matter how much I wanted to take care of Daddy. In
the end, I knew he would be better off staying in Kinston. He had

much more of a support system than I could ever offer him. He ruled
the town, after being a retired policeman and city councilman, some

people were checking on him daily. There was always traffic in and out

of his condo. He remained in Kinston and his health turned
completely around again. By then Daddy had been on kidney dialysis

for ten years and had two knee replacements, but he kept on pushing.

it. It was all God's plan.

Now that the decision had been made for Daddy to remain in

Kinston, I began to focus again on getting financing for the business.
By October, we were still robbing Peter to pay Paul just to meet

payroll. I was not quite sure how we would meet payroll in November.
I had always promised myself I would do all I could to never miss a

payroll. I knew how that felt when my first paycheck had bounced at
              Cox.

By this time, the housing market was beginning to boom in

Maryland and our house had doubled in value. I was getting desperate
with November’s payroll coming up and decided to approach crazy

Leroy to see if we could pull some additional equity out of the house
to stabilize the business. We already had a credit line attached to the
