our suite to help us pack up the gifts because we were heading for the
honeymoon.
I do not know why I let him pick the honeymoon location. It was
horrible; a place in Florida, some offshore island. It was the most
boring place I had ever been to. The island was about 20 miles wide
and the town shut down at 7:00 p.m. Of course, Leroy stocked up on
his liquor. During the first couple of days, I believe we got busy, but I
stayed in one room and him in another, throughout the honeymoon.
He was drinking and we would connect for dinner. I kept calling my
girlfriends to alleviate the boredom. By the third day, we both decided
to return home ahead of time.
Leroy was so proud to tell people I was his wife. He was just
beaming. It took me six months to refer to him as my husband, as well
as change my name. I had a hard time becoming a Thornburg. I still
just hyphenated my name to include my maiden name. I was too
attached to my maiden name just to give it up like that.
We both kept our properties. I had a condominium and he had a
townhouse. We rented them once we found a community where we
would build our dream house.
Leroy found the community where we would build our dream
house, "The Northridge Estates."
The house was 4,000 square feet on one acre of land. We chose
the house based on the model home. In February, and after putting
