That’s Crazy
both working on our problems. I was asking myself why he would tell
Daddy that, Big Poppa did not miss too much.
Shortly thereafter, Daddy was asking me if Leroy had a drinking
problem. I denied it then. I guess now I see that as the beginning of
the problem. After we left Kinston and Virginia, we pretty much
assumed we would marry. It was not like there was anything romantic
about the process. Around Christmas we went to look for rings in
December, I picked the one I wanted, it had to be sized. We went to
pick up the ring on Christmas Eve. The ring was not ready when we
arrived, and Leroy had to return to work. I waited for the ring, and
when it was ready, I placed the ring on my finger and congratulated
myself. Although, later that evening I did make him get to his knees
and properly propose to me.
We had Christmas dinner with his brother Timothy and his wife,
Adrienne. It was one of the strangest experiences. Leroy was sweating
and nervous, and Timothy and Adrienne were sitting there as his
parents. He put me on the spot. I did not know what he had told them,
and this was my first time meeting them. He told them he had
something to tell them and then pulled my hand out so that I could
show them the engagement ring. There was no introduction, just show
them the ring. They both looked like they were in shock and they were
completely speechless.
