Page 11 - A MEASURE OF FAITH
P. 11
10. How do we get faith?
Romans 10:17 tells us this: consequently, faith comes from hearing the message,
and the message is heard through the word of Christ.
The first time the unbeliever comes to hear about Christ it took the preaching by
a friend for the unsaved person to hear the message and teaching on the death
and resurrection of Christ for him/her to believe.
As the teaching on Christ is presented to the unsaved person on a continuous
basis the precious thoughts about Jesus Christ found in the gospel begin to sink
in as they are appreciated.
As time passes on the response to Christ is increased as the message of the
gospel causes a spontaneous reaction and this person comes to believe in his/her
heart that they do indeed want Him.
Earlier on when were first introduced to Jesus by a friend this interaction with the
gospel might not have induced in us an interest in Jesus or caused us to believe
in Him.
As this friend continues pressing on us the need to hear and interact with the
message slowly we internalize its implications through the avenue of this friend.
We then begin hearing from Christ word for word and our faith in Him comes
alive in us.
The more one comes in contact with the gospel in this way that is through one
on one evangelism the more one appreciates and values the hearing of the
words of Christ.
In the process of being spoken to the message and the teachings of Jesus we
develop our own unique salvation experience. In the long run we come to
understand for ourselves how incomparable this person is.
We can’t get enough of Him and we want more of Him and through no effort on
our part we come to comprehend how deed the love of God for us truly is and
how much God loves all of us!
Faith comes through us hearing the message and not by us striving for it and this
hearing of the gospel is much different from us developing a positive attitude or
having good thoughts towards the person of Christ.
