righteous.
3. The Old Testament Covenant with His people.
The God of the Old Testament knew that the people he bore on wings out of the
shackles of slavery needed to build and maintain a long lasting covenant
relationship with him and so he acknowledged that such a covenant relationship
would be attained by their religious attitude towards their maker.
In so doing these people would be embracing a proper attitude towards the
lord’s commands and so they would treat their God as a being worthy of
obedience and trust.
There are two ways we can attain this attitude both of which require spiritual
involvement:-
Like the children of Israel when called upon to enter and possess the
Promised Land we can chose to rebel against God’s commandments and
refuse to take possession of our inheritance. (Deut. 9: 23)
We can chose to be like Abraham and test and approve the will of God by
acknowledging his ability to stand upon his own promises and in doing so
rely fully on his power to perform that which he has promised. Abraham
believed the lord and it was credited to him as righteousness. (Gen. 15:6)
Both God and the man Abram had s special connection when it came to the
destiny of future generations. God approached Abram with his plan and purpose
for the future.
Abram entered into this picture by becoming an agent of change that would
impacts God’s historical plan for the future the redemption of generations to
come.
Abram believed in the tangible and solid cause and purpose for this plan and in
doing so his name was fixed permanently in God’s plan of redemption. Abram
chose to depend upon the plan of God for the future as the lord firmly secured
his place in the annals of history.
