people behind the scenes go to work. The fryers make sure there are enough
fries; the burger makers make sure your burger is dressed the way you requested,
the settings on the deep fryers pre-set and fool-proof. Most of all of the systems
don't leave it up to the employees to figure out what to do. The simpler the
systems, the more effective the business, and less chance of screwing it up.
Okay try this.
Run outside and go find a 5th grader. Wait a minute, that's probably a bad idea.
Scratch that. Ask the next kid you see whether or not they are a fifth grader.
"Who invented the automobile?" Do you know?
When 5 graders were asked that question on the playground or at school, 99% of
th
all the kids answered “Henry Ford, of course”.
Is that true?
Actually it's false. Henry Ford did not invent the automobile.
A man by the name of Carl Benz did. He was from Germany when he invented the
automobile. I'm no historian, but I have a feeling his wife's name was Mercedes.
Henry Ford's contribution to the world may have been even more important than
just the automobile. Henry Ford invented the assembly line.
This is the biggest example of Automation in the history of American Business.
Henry's vision was to come up with a way to mass-produce automobiles so every
American family can afford to have one. People thought he was crazy, but he
understood the power of systemization.
His assembly line system has been duplicated into thousands and thousands of
other industries. This one simple system so dramatically changed production; our
world was forever different thereafter!
