New Matter Intake
Prior SEA Project No.
• Reference the prior matter number in this field, if one is available.
• A new matter should be opened any time we change whom we represent or for depositions.
• For example, if we were involved in a Construction case and the original client settled out and released us to
work for another party, a new matter is required.
Estimate
• Only include the dollar amount. Do not include cents.
• Ex. "1000"
• The number will format correctly as a dollar amount on the Matter Retention template.
• Any change to this field after a matter is submitted will alert the Matter Audit Group so the estimate can be
updated on Accounting’s end.
• If subsequent estimates are obtained, update this field with the total project estimated to date.

• For use by S-E-A’s laboratory facility only.
Retainer
• If a retainer was requested, type the amount in the field.
• Only include the dollar amount. Do not include cents.
• Ex. "1000"
• The number will format correctly as a dollar amount on the Matter Retention template.
• Any change to this field after a matter is submitted will alert the Matter Audit Group so the retainer budget can
be updated on Accounting’s end.
• If subsequent retainers are obtained, update this field with the total project estimated to date.
Related Parties
• If a conflict search is not needed (i.e., VIMF Testing or Candle Testing project where there are no related
parties), SKIP THIS SECTION!
• If Standard is the Tracking Type, Related Parties becomes a required field. This means the form cannot be
submitted without entering parties. This is a safeguard.
• Do not put insurance companies, law firms, adjusters or other experts in this field. Those belong in Description
of Loss.
• To Add related parties, select Add:
