Chapter II
The Concepts of Leadership in Western Ideas
This Chapter demonstrates the concepts of leadership according to the
Western ideas that are explored by previous scholars in the field of leadership which
consists of three main sections as followed: 1) the significance, and the definition of
leadership concepts in Western idea, 2) Development of the concepts of leadership in
the west, and 3) The concepts of leadership in western ideas. The focus of this section
one will mainly discuss on significance and meaning of leadership based on previous
studies. Section two the details of development leadership and the background of
successful leaders and scholars. And finally, the discussion of section three will review
further information about the concepts of leadership theming around Warren G. Bennis
and John C. Maxwell.
2.1 Significance and Definition of Leadership Concepts in West
Leadership is not about little, large, important, and insignificant but
leadership is about inspiring and motivating to do the right thing for the family, the
community, and the country.
Napoleon said, “Leaders are dealers in hope.” People lose hope when they
do not have a leader and have a leader with no guidance. Because faith in the leader is

the top believe to achieve the goal for subordinates.
Abraham Lincoln took 30 years fraternizing in political area and failing the
election many times, but he had not given up and won the presidential competition to

persistence climbing up to the top where one wants to grow. That’s why Napoleon Hill
