1.4 Scope of the Study
This research focuses on studying the concept of leadership for successful
leaders in Western ideas mainly by two expert leadership scholars: Warren G. Bennis
and John C. Maxwell. And also will go deeper studying the concepts of leadership that
mentioned in Tipiṭaka of Theravāda Buddhism, to identify the similarities and
differences between those two perspectives.
This work consists of the following with five chapters:
Chapter 1: Outline the introduction which presents a statement of the
problems, significance, the purpose of the study, and its advantages.
Chapter 2: Signify and define the concepts of leadership by Western
scholars in the area of leadership field: Warren G. Bennis and John C. Maxwell
with four kinds of leadership strategies, the qualities of leadership to become the
successful leaders. Finally, paperwork will be describing summarize and remark
the concept of the leadership as Western ideas.
Chapter 3: The concepts of leadership and the duties of a leader according
to Theravāda perspective appeared in Tripitaka such as Jatak: Story, Stanza: Gatha
in Dhammapada, and Suttas.
Chapter 4: Analyze of the concepts of leadership and necessary roles of
leaders between Western and the Theravāda perspectives, including describing what
the similarities and differences between the two approaches are. Certainly, it shows
the way how to apply the concept to daily life for the new generation.
Chapter 5: Conclude and suggest the real successful concept of
leadership which presents a summary of the study.
1.5 Definition of the Term Used in the Research
Terminologies related to the study are defined in order to avoid some
misunderstanding among them the definitions of terms as follows:
1.5.1 Concept – An idea about something conceives in mind in general
including many objectives can represent something by though, notion, the way, trait,
