Chapter 1: So WHY do we get fat?

        Blame your computer!

Thousands and thousands of years ago, we (human beings) were in constant
fear of being hunted by beasts like lions and tigers. We had to go out and
forage for food, which was usually quite a challenge. There were no
guarantees that you would eat every day.

As a result, we were much leaner and meaner in the good old days. After
we discovered fire and started using our brains, we were able to tame our
predators, and as we learnt farming techniques, so food security became less
of an issue, and we could eat daily. But this also meant we were burning
        fewer and fewer calories.

Nowadays, because of our heavily sedentary lifestyles, where we jump in
the car to go to work, sit in front of a computer all day and fiddle with our
smart phones, and then get home for a Netflix dinner, our bodies burn even

The enemy has become us, not the predator, and the challenge today is too
much food, not too little. So, we have created a new set of life challenges to
overcome. Lifestyle diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure have
become our new predators, and we are more at risk from these things than
from the beasts of old. Where you sit, you are more likely to die from a
metabolic disease than from a lion!

But aside from the fact that we sit in front of our computers all day (where
are you reading this book? ), we know, after years of being in the health &
