DEPRTMENT OF SCIENCE -GRADE 11& 12 F

The afternoon session students of grade 11 and 12 science stream
marked the Drop-Down Day, on 8 of September by creating an
                                        th
awareness about oil spills, debating on need for smarter technology
versus recycling, role play and group discussion.

The purpose of this drop-down day was to provide an overview of
how oil spills can impact marine ecological resources and functions,
and how quickly those resources and functions can recover. The
students analyzed how oil spills are harmful to marine birds and
        mammals , fish and shellfish.

“How does plastic end up in Oceans” was discussed followed a
radio role play in the classroom which was an excellent way to
encourage imaginative play, creativity and communication skills in
the classroom. Students spoke on ways to develop "advanced
technologies to get rid the world’s oceans of plastic."

There was a quiz competition oil spills. A debate was held on the
topic ‘Smarter designs’ vs ‘Recycling’. Students gave persuasive
explanations for and against smart designs which might be a
threat to the job opportunities in the near future.

The students took an oath and promised to fight against
pollution. They collectively wrote down the ideas they acquired
for the day to be displayed in their class room.

The debate, class discussions were highly informative, allowing the
students to develop their self-confidence, self-awareness, resilience
        and empathy.
