                                                       CHAPTER 2
                                                 ACADEMIC PROCESSES

2.1. Scheduling and Conduct of Classes
                    2.1.1. Course Loads and Scheduling
The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs through the Registrar is tasked
to provide policy and oversight on course scheduling. The College Deans draft the tentative
loads and schedules of subjects including room assignments. Faculty schedules are prepared
by the College Deans in due consultation with the other Deans and the faculty members.
The assignment of teaching loads should be based on the existing policies of the institution
governing TL/WL A tentative schedule is usually given to faculty members at least two (2)
weeks before the opening of the semester to give them enough time to prepare. Loads are
considered final once approved by the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) two weeks
after the opening of classes. The VPAA and College Dean sign the Official Report on Load of
the faculty member before it is forwarded to the HRMO.

                    2.1.2. Change of Class Schedule
The regular schedule of classes, as approved, should be observed strictly. Faculty
members should conduct their classes for instruction or consultation purposes on the
scheduled time and venue. In case of a plan to change the class schedule, the faculty
member should first inform, consult, and get the approval of their Dean. Internal
arrangements between faculty members and students are not allowed. Any deviation from
the approved schedule should be immediately communicated to the Office of the Registrar.

                    2.1.3. Class Size
A minimum number of students are required to open a class as shown in Table 8
                           below:

Table 8. Allowable class size to open a regular class in the University
                                                      Undergraduate Masteral Program Doctoral Program

                               First Years 35 15 10

                               Succeeding years 15 7 5
                               (Specialization)

Should the class size fall below the minimum number, the College Dean must
immediately decide whether to dissolve the class or to maintain it as a special class. If to be
dissolved, the students must be advised to transfer to other classes/ programs/ course. If
the class is to proceed as a special class, the students must be advised to craft and forward
a request to the Vice President for Academic Affairs through the Dean. The Dean must
evaluate and ensure that the requirements for the approval of requests for special classes
are complied before endorsing the same to the VPAA for approval. The VPAA approves
requests for special classes in behalf of the University President.
