“He wasn’t exactly a threat,” I laugh embracing my sister.
“Hey…!” my uninvited guest struggles.
“Captain Smith, I see you’ve met my sister, I did warn you she doesn’t like
people”
“Elaine, you knew about this? Why didn't they just send you?”
“I tried but policy is policy apparently, but I know policy doesn't apply to
you so I snuck along.”
“Ya that’s pretty accurate.” I say looking at the mess of my apartment, “You
cut your hair?” I point to my sister’s new messy bob.
“Long and blonde got boring, besides you pull it off better!”
“You’re just doing this so I’ll come back to Deviants”
My sister just shrugs in response.
Captain Smith finally collects himself and begins walking out of my
apartment. Elaine follows suit but I hesitate. What am I doing?
Literally, I’m just following a stranger who wants to do what? A deal? What
kind? How did they get the rest of us? Where am I going? I don’t know what’s
going on.
I look down at my feet trying to piece together what’s going on and I almost
sit back down on my couch to forget everything that happened tonight. I close my
eyes and I don't see black, I see statistics, shield strength reports, glitching cool
down, stun shot recharge. I have a heads up display on all the time. I open my
eyes and can feel my brain preparing for any chance of an incoming attack, almost
like a computer screen scanning the room I can identify seven possible escape
routes, 16 usable weapons, even more numbers explaining my powers. I can state
my exact coordinates on the Earth and teleport anywhere I’ve recorded the
longitude and latitude for. My body can materialize into pixels and glitch
