GRACE, Exploring Its Riches
Unfortunately, in today’s society, even amongst the saints of
God, we see a situation where the words of men, popular
pastors, accomplished professionals, literary icons, fashion
and sports icons, have become elevated to the final authority
for living. We often hear a lot of church folks copiously
quoting the sayings of their religious leaders, without any
recourse to God’s eternal word, the Holy Scriptures. Many
have taken drastic and definitive decisions in their lives
without even knowing what the word of God has said about
the issues decided on. There are several things the word of
God can do for a person:
a. As Compass for Living
While Jesus was in the wilderness, where He was led to be
tempted of the devil, He shared this cardinal principle.
“And when He had fasted forty days and forty
nights, afterward He was hungry. Now when the
tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son
of God, command that these stones become bread.”
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man
shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
that proceeds from the mouth of God’”
(Matthew 4:2-4).
Jesus, here, had been through a season of abstinence from
food in a conscious effort to develop His spiritual sensitivity
and responsiveness to the things of the Holy Spirit. The
