around at this vulnerable point to tempt Him to meet His
need by demonstrating His divine power. Jesus responded
by saying that living is not just by material supplies, but by
every word spoken by the mouth of God. Oh, how we need
to go back to living based on God’s word! We need God’s
word to truly live. Material supplies are not enough. What
we acquire in the natural is not enough to live a God-
pleasing life. We need to live right, and live righteously in
the sight of our Creator. This is one reason why He has
given us the Holy Scriptures.

The word of God is able to guide us in every area of our
human affairs, whether as a parent, leader, entrepreneur, or
in whatever other responsibilities we have in the society, for
making daily decisions and all such demands of daily living.
When we live by God’s word the grace contained in those
words become available to us to live supernaturally in our
natural endeavours.

b. The Standard for Getting God’s Approval
Every human being is expected to live up to God’s standards
in every facet of life. Getting God’s approval is not subject to
human opinion, feeling or assumption. God’s approval is a
product of meeting God’s standards. He has not left His
standard to racial, gender or socioeconomic colourations. It
is one reason why He gave us the Holy Scriptures once for
all generations. Paul the apostle wrote in this regard as he
mentored his son in the faith, Timothy, on how to meet
God’s standards:
