Create a content strategy
Think like a journalist and create a content strategy. Map policy and industry events
to identify what topics you can comment on that are relevant and which will highlight
your expertise in your chosen nice.
Next, plan a strategy by creating an editorial calendar that map key events and
outlines topics and communication channels for getting your message out.
Why is sharing content so important?
According to LinkedIn’s The Sophisticated Marketer’s Guide to Thought Leadership,
good content is one of the main reasons people follow companies or other people on
social media. Sharing good stuff builds social capital. Content is your way of
communicating who you are and your expertise to all the people who are willing to
watch you. The more content you create and the more consistent you are with
posting your content, the more opportunities you give to others to see you, see your
stuff, to know and understand who you are.
Successful author and speaker, Chris Brogan talks about “paying it forward” as a
thought leader – we should give before we receive. The key here is that it is not
about giving for self-promotion or to get anything back, it is about making a genuine
contribution to your field and creating value for your audience.
What type of content should I share?
Thought leaders continually create meaningful content with their audience. It is not
enough to just like, share and comment on other people’s posts. You need to
actively contribute here.
