will cut off man and beast from it: Though these
three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they
should deliver but their own souls by their right-
eousness, saith the Lord God. Or if I bring a sword
upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the
land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:
Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith
the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor
daughters, but they only shall be delivered them-
selves.

3. When a nation willingly rejects a widespread call
to repentance.
Because I have called, and ye refused; I have
stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; But
ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would
none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your ca-
lamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When
your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruc-
tion cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and an-
guish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon
me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early,
but they shall not find me:

4. When God has exhausted all His resources of re-
form.
For if we sin wilfully after that we have received
the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no
more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful look-
ing for of judgment and fiery indignation, which
shall devour the adversaries.
