• Diabetic nephropathy
Quercetin was shown to have renoprotective effects against diabetic
nephropathy because it reduced oxidative stress and apoptosis in renal
cells.

• Anti-allergic
Quercetin stabilizes the membranes of mast cells and reduces the release
of preformed histamine Quercetin must be used as a preventative taken
before allergen exposure. Thus the activity of quercetin is similar to that
of cromolyn, a drug that is often prescribed for allergy and asthma
prophylaxis. Quercetin also inhibits the production of enzymes
responsible for manufacturing the potent leukotrienes.

• Anticancer
Quercetin shows some anticancer activities through modulating the
signaling pathways and gene expression involved in carcinogenesis.

                                      2. Rutin

A flavonol glycoside, quercetin-3-O-(6-O-rhamnoside) glucose, obtained
from ruta species which upon hydrolysis yields quercetin, glucose and
rhamnose.

Uses:

Rutin is used to treat venous disorders and hemorrhoids.

Vitamin P:

Is a term used to describe a group of bioflavonoids. These are naturally
occurring flavonoidal compounds having a biological activity. These are
mainly referred to hesperidin, diosmin and rutin.
Bioflavonoids mainly diosmin is indicated in the treatment of edema and
of symptoms related to venous insufficiency, pelvic congestion
syndrome, venous surgery (decrease in postoperative pain and more
rapid recovery) as well as lymphedema and haemorroids. Its other
