Hesperidin is a flavanone glycoside (2,3-dihydroflavone) obtained from
citrus fruits, family Rutaceae.
Acid hydrolysis yields herperitin and rutinose (a disaccharide of glucose
and rhamnose).
Flavonol glycosides
Flavonol glycosides are 3-hydroxyflavone glycosides. These include
quercetrin and rutin.
1. Quercetrin
Quercetrin (3,3′,4′,5,7-pentahydroxyflavone glycoside), it is obtained from
Quercus tinctoria. Acid hydrolysis of quercetrin yields quercetin
(aglycone) and rhamnose.
Uses:
• Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity
Quercetin is an excellent scavenger of reactive oxygen species (ROS)
and reactive nitrogen species, and an excellent candidate for reducing
oxidative stress. Quercetin inhibits NF-κB activation, thereby directly
reducing the cytokine production via this transcription factor.
