A Mental Health Journey (22 For The 22)

Embarking on a mission to shed light on the critical importance of mental health within the veteran commu- nity, the "22 for the 22" initia- tive calls upon participants to walk, ruck, or run for a cause that resonates deeply with the lives of those who have served. This powerful move- ment seeks to raise awareness about the mental health chal- lenges faced by veterans, sym- bolically represented by the number 22, which tragically signifies the average number of veterans who lose their lives to suicide daily. Joining this movement becomes more than just a physical endeavor; it transforms into a collective commitment to fostering un- derstanding, support, and a pathway to mental well-being for those who have dedicated their lives to service.
This year’s 22 For The 22 event will be held on May 18th. After losing his brother, Nick, to suicide, Scott Hyder wanted to help out as well as raise awareness of the issue of suicide among vets, so he began working with a local suicide prevention and aware- ness team. He was a member of Team Forever Young and participated in various Out of the Darkness walks sponsored by The American Founda- tion for Suicide Prevention. By participating with Team Forever and speaking publicly about suicide and those who are struggling, Hyder contin- ued on with his journey of raising awareness. After losing his brother, Scott found solace in calling up his army buddies to get an idea of how to help him navigate his grief, and the main answer was this—get

March is here, and that means it’s the sweetest time of the year for pancake lovers and those who enjoy other great treats and baked goods, some made with newer recipes, others from recipes passed down over the generations that have become a tradition for many New Hamp- shire families.
