1. JOB DESCRIPTION
The breadth of this text is testimony to the fact that there is a substantial
amount of knowledge necessary to successfully perform as a professional
Waitress. Yet, no guide on commercial Waitressing would be complete
without a thorough discussion on the refined, diplomatic art of guest relations.
While nearly every guest, manager, or club owner will have a different notion
on what the Waitress job descriptions are, the following is an attempt to
provide the generally accepted parameters of the position.
A Professional Waitress must:
- Remain vigilant against selling alcohol to minors.
- Continually strive to improve his or her artistic and technical expertise.
- Honor and oblige when intervention is in the public's best interest.
- Handle all monetary transactions in an honest and forthright manner.
- Place composure before his or her emotions.
- Oversee a legally complying bar.
- Remain sober and alert when representing the employer.
- Work expediently and accept responsibility for his or her actions.
- Maintain a clean and health-conscious work area.
- Provide exemplary service and hospitality.
First and foremost, Shotgun Willies is an Entertainment Club. As an employee,
you are an essential part of the show we provide. This script will explore
numerous fine points regarding the highly skilled art of providing our audience
with professional beverage service. This section also contains material
delineating what the managers and owners of Shotgun Willie's Show Club
expect of their Waitresses as performers in our show.
2. GUEST INTERACTION
A Waitress should make a concerted effort to avoid listening in on guests'
conversations, unless he/she is addressed directly and avoid engaging
guests’ extended unnecessary conversation. He/she should remain, at all
times, polite and courteous, and friendly with the guests. By any means
possible, Waitresses should avoid becoming embroiled in inflammatory
conversations. Discussions about politics and religion can often become
quite heated. It is therefore far safer to gradually withdraw from the
conversation. As a Waitress, taking sides exacts a heavy toll on tips. To
