The Department of Spiritual Care provides coverage to all University Health Network
sites daily from 0830-2300 hrs. This coverage is normally provided by residents and
casual staff however in the absence of their availability this responsibility falls to the
department staff. This means, that on occasion, Spiritual Care staff may be requested to
adjust their weekly schedule to ensure coverage.
The Department of Spiritual Care will respond to all pages and Code Blues at each site
received through the On-call pager. This policy will outline the responsibilities of the
Department Spiritual Care between 0830-2300 hrs.

1. The on-call day shift starts at 0830 hours to 1630 hours. The on-call night shift
starts at 1630 to 2300 hours.
2. It is the responsibility of the on-call person to check voice mail once per shift.
3. It is also the responsibility (day or evening) to connect (in person or by phone)
with the person beginning their on-call shift to transfer accountability. The
location for this is M-525 at PMH.
4. Pages will be responded to within 10 minutes. It is the responsibility of the on-call
person to triage calls and inform the clinical area of when they are able to
“attend” the call. This is part of the original response time.
5. The on-call person may be contacted in two ways:
a. Pager – (416) 719-1234: simply dial the number, which appears on the
pager screen. If you have problems, please contact locating at 14-3155 or
dial 0.
b. Voice Mail – below are the instructions on how to access the voice mail
Dial (13) -5777; Enter mailbox number (5836) and the password,
both followed by a number (#) sign.
Taxi vouchers can be used for travel to Bickle and Lyndhurst. Taxi vouchers are
to be used for travel between the other UHN sites ONLY when the shuttle bus is
not running. Taxi vouchers are available through the Administrative Assistant,
and assigned and recorded for tracking purposes. Taxi phone numbers are on
vouchers and taxis are usually available outside the lobbies and Emergency
