TAKING ATTENDANCE
OFFICIAL ATTENDANCE “SNAPSHOT” PERIOD
All student attendance taken for funding purposes must be calculated during a specific timeframe within a specified
period of the school day. This specific moment of attendance accounting is referred to as the “snapshot.” The district
nd
th
has two periods of the day (2 and 5 periods) that the official “snapshot” of attendance may be taken. The two
different times allow for a morning and afternoon opportunity to calculate official attendance for the day. The
afternoon opportunity exists to accommodate the roll call for elementary students whose school day begins in the
afternoon. Ultimately, the district’s state reimbursement for educational service is calculated from this “snapshot” of
attendance. An absence recorded for a student at the time of the official “snapshot” is used to determine the amount
of ADA to subtract from the school's membership counts.
The “snapshot” roll call is conducted to determine whether a student is present or absent for ADA funding purposes. A
student who is present for the “snapshot” is considered present for that day’s attendance reporting to the state.
Because the District starts the school day with a staggered schedule giving elementary, middle, and high schools
different start times, all schools cannot conduct their “snapshot” roll call at the same time of day. The funding period is
highlighted in the Skyward attendance tab. Once established, the time of the “snapshot” may not change except as
permitted for standardized tests or final exams.
Elementary schools- Will conduct “snapshot” attendance at 10:00 a.m.
For students that attend in the morning
Elementary schools- ½ day Will conduct “snapshot” attendance at 2:00 p.m.
For students whose school day begins in the afternoon
nd
Will conduct “snapshot” attendance during the 2 period of their school day.
nd
In high school, this attendance is recorded in the identified 2 instructional
Secondary schools period depending on whether it is “A” day or “B” day.
A-day periods in Skyward are 1,2,3,4
B-day periods are 5,6,7,8
The funding period is either 2 or 6.
