ATTENDANCE LOCK FOR FUNDING PERIOD
In order to encourage teachers to take attendance during the funding period during the “reasonableness window,” the
Skyward attendance-taking feature for teachers will “lock” at the end of the reasonableness window (15 minutes after
the snapshot moment.) After the lock, teachers will no longer be able to enter their attendance electronically. Teachers
will be expected to print a class roster, mark each student as “P” or “A”, and sign the roster with date and time. The
roster should then be turned in to the appropriate attendance office staff to enter the absences manually. These rosters
must be uploaded into the P-Drive in the folder “Teacher Submissions” as part of required attendance documentation.
The attendance lock will occur at the following times:
ELEMENTARY
Morning attendance may not be taken before 9:45 AM; attendance is locked at 10:15 AM.
Afternoon attendance may not be taken before 1:45 PM; attendance is locked at 2:15 PM.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Attendance should not be taken until 11 minutes into the second period; attendance will lock at approximately 30
minutes into the period. Lock times will vary by campus depending on the campus schedule.
HIGH SCHOOL
nd
th
Attendance should not be taken before the 19 minute of the 2 period class (approximately 9:25); attendance will lock
at 10:00 AM.
ADJUSTMENTS TO “SNAPSHOT” ROLLCALL DURING STANDARDIZED TESTING
If standardized achievement tests or final exams are administered during the official attendance accounting period in
which the “snapshot” attendance is taken, official absences shall be recorded just before, during, or immediately after
the exam. During state-mandated assessments, attendance for testing students will be taken in testing groups.
Attendance for non-testing students will be taken at the regular attendance time in their assigned classrooms. Testing
group rosters should be used to take attendance and signed and dated by the testing administrator. This roster should
be uploaded into the P-Drive in the “Testing Folder.” Students who are testing and not in their regular classrooms,
should be marked as “P-TS” in Skyward by attendance personnel. (See Appendix- Skyward Attendance Codes and
Reasons)
TAKING ATTENDANCE DURING SEMESTER EXAMS – SECONDARY CAMPUSES
A semester exam schedule should be sent to the central attendance office at least one week before administration of
the fall and spring semester exams. The funding period will be adjusted (if needed) in Skyward so that teachers can take
attendance during the classes which meet on each day. Notice must be given to all campus teachers acknowledging this
change in taking “official” attendance for that day. Students who are “exempt” from exams and who are not present
during the class exam meeting, must be counted absent by the teacher.
