ATTENDANCE REASON CODES
E-AD when an administrator wishes to excuse a student’s absence due to special

circumstances. Written documentation must be attached in Attendance Notes.
C Counselor’s Office P-C to show that a student was present in the counselor’s office.
P-CL to show that a student was present in the clinic.
E-CL can be used when the student is sent home from the clinic to cover the
CL Clinic remaining periods missed; as well as when the student has been told NOT to
return to school the next day due to fever, vomiting, diarrhea or other health
issues.
CT Court See NONABSENCE CODING PERMITTED BY THE STATE ; E or N code
CV College Visits See NONABSENCE CODING PERMITTED BY THE STATE ; E or N code
DR Doctor See NONABSENCE CODING PERMITTED BY THE STATE ; E or N code
Absences due to a family death are always excused. A campus may request a
funeral program or obituary to document the date of the service. A handwritten
note may also be accepted.
A student is not required to gain permission prior to attending the service in order

to have the absences excused. If the funeral service is out of town, travel to and
from the service (one day each way) is required to be excused by the district. The
campus administrator may approve additional days for long distances or special
circumstances.

P-FT to show the student is under the supervision of a school official on a school-

IL Illness E-IL Parent note is returned saying that a student was absent due to illness.
Isolated Instruction P-IR ONLY for special education students receiving instruction in a special on-

(SPED only) campus setting rather than in the student’s regular classrooms.
P-IS Students who are in in-school suspension. It is always used with the P code
IS Reassignment
because students are present with a school official.
E-IW If the district or the campus administrator determine that weather conditions
warrant a parent taking his student out of school early or leaving the student at
IW Inclement Weather
home. Conditions include: ice, severe weather, or lack of electricity or water at
the campus.
ML Military Deployment Visit See NONABSENCE CODING PERMITTED BY THE STATE
P-O When a student is in the main office or an administrator’s office during the
O Main Office time attendance is taken (snapshot). An office referral, pass, or main office log
should be kept for documentation of the P code.
OS Out of School Suspension See EXCUSED ABSENCE CODING FOR SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Must be authorized or excused by the campus administrator. The district does not

require that out-of-town parent notes be accepted for excused absences.
PR Religious Holy Day See NONABSENCE CODING PERMITTED BY THE STATE; E or N code
RW Runaway See EXCUSED ABSENCE CODING FOR SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
P-TC Indicates a teacher directed correction when an absence has been entered in
error. If a teacher failed to mark an absence, the office staff will enter an A with a
TC Teacher Correction
note in the comments identifying the teacher error. Written requests from
teachers should be entered in Skyward’s attendance attachments.
